CSAA Athletic Achievements No 1

This is an opportunity to recognise the athletic talent that exists within the Civil Service and maintains a fine tradition that stretches back many years.

World Cross Country Championships, Mombasa, Kenya

DWP Civil Servant, Hatti Dean, ran the race of her life on March 24th 2007, in the searing heat of Mombasa, Kenya. Hatti, representing Great Britain in the World Cross Country Championships, survived in temperatures of over 30C to lead the British team home in 15th place and to 5th team overall.

Hatti, quoted in AW said, “It hasn’t really sunk in, I didn’t know I was that high up at all. It happened so quickly it doesn’t seem real yet”.

Her next target is qualifying for the Athletic World Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase.

European Masters Indoor Championships, Helsinki, Finland

In the M40 sprints, Tony Noel (HMRC) was up against two top class Italians. In the 60m Tony finished 2nd whilst in the 200m, although recording the same time, 22.37, Tony was placed 2nd, but set a new British record.

In the Walks, CSAA Vice President, John Hall (DEFRA Retired), was 2nd in the M55 3k and finished in the same silver medal position in the 5k Road Walk.
