Report From The London Business Houses Bridges Relays 17th June 2015

Civil Service Women Retain Their LBH Bridges Relays Title Winning Team Gold and it was Team Bronze For Civil Service Men.

Natasha Sheel and Tom Aldred are LBH Individual Silver Medallists and Megan Roberts Claimed the Individual Bronze.

On Wednesday evening 17th June the London Civil Service Athletics Team upheld their impressive record in the annual London Business Houses Bridges Relays at Westminster with our Women's A team winning LBH team gold to retain their title (5th women's team overall) and our men's A team came so close to retaining their team title but had to be content with LBH team bronze only 1 second off team silver and a mere 3 seconds off team gold!

Our fastest runners from the men were Tom Aldred who was the LBH individual silver medallist (6th overall). Tom completed the 2.3 mile course kicking us off on the opening leg in an impressive 11:30. Although this was 6 seconds down on last year. Tom did have a valid excuse for his dilly dallying as, in fairness to him and indeed to all the runners, there was a strong gusty wind to contend with this year. Dan Steel clocked in at 12:25 on the 2nd leg. Alastair Locke, recently back from injury, put in a good shift on the 3rd leg with 13:19 and Steve Norris closed for the A team with 13:09. We had  a third man go sub 13 minutes for the Civil Service, it was Adam Lewis who recorded 12:53 for the B Team. Not bad at all considering Adam has never been attached to any UKA affiliated club. With potential like he has shown I can't see him remaining an unaffiliated athlete for long!

Natasha Sheel was the fastest Civil Service female with a time of 14:29 recorded on the 1st leg for the women's A team and secured her the LBH individual silver medal (10th overall). Natasha wasn't finished there though as she stoically went out and ran the anchor leg in 15.49 for our mixed open C team to ensure that they closed. Megan Roberts clocked in at 14:31 on the 2nd leg which also bagged for herself the LBH individual bronze medal (13th overall). Ilona Bagi brought the A team home on the glory leg recording 15:11 and thus ensuring team gold!

Congratulations Civil Service women on ensuring that the Civil Service remain the LBH Bridges Relays Champions!

Rose Baker 15:54, Maureen Noel 16:27 and Elizabeth Marchant 15:31 formed the B Team and put up a good solid performance to finish just outside the LBH medals, coming home just ten seconds behind the Metropolitan Police. Our men's B team Crispin Allen 13:24, Adam Lewis 12:53, Kimon Doulis 13:37 and Gareth Ward 16:31 were solid too finishing 16th out of 91 LBH open teams and 28th out of 119 overall.

Our C team of Jonathan Cody 18:37, Colin Armstrong 18:47, Matilda Curtis 19:38 and Natasha Sheel 17:21 (2nd run) were 78th LBH team and 105th overall did well with a fair number of  teams trailing behind them. Likewise our women's C team of Linda Ingram 17:05, Eniko Nadas 18:37 and Christine Munden 21:11 also put up a valiant effort.

The event was as popular as ever selling out weeks in advance of the closing date, attracting just under 600 runners. The Civil Service have built up a good record in the LBH Bridges Relays over many years and it was good to see us well represented once again and bringing home the medals. At one point we had 40 runners prior to the withdrawals so to still come away with so many medals shows what good strength in depth we have in the Civil Service.
